Attendance Matters

The following information was emailed to families in the December 5th edition of the 'Weekly Wildcat' newsletter from Mr. Galligan:

Did you know!? An average calendar month consists of 18-19 days in school. Therefore, missing 18 days - or more - of school in a year results in a month (or more) of missed lessons. Students with absences (whether excused or unexcused) of 18 days - or more - are considered to be “chronically absent.”

Families with students approaching or exceeding 18 absences should expect phone calls, offers of assistance, or other interventions from Warwick Neck, that are expected by the city and state, to support and ensure proper student attendance in school.

To assist with promoting better attendance, the RI Department of Education has provided free 8 x 11” attendance tracker magnets for your fridge at home. Students are encouraged to mark an “X” on days they are absent and keep track of how much school they are missing. Be sure to celebrate and acknowledge months of perfect attendance by placing a star underneath it!
