Week Ahead

The following was sent to the community via email from our Principal, Mr. Galligan, at 6 PM on Sunday, October 20, 2024:

Dear Warwick Neck Families,

Please note the following as we return to school and work for the week:

Mon., Oct. 21st -- "Make-A-Difference Monday!"

A recurring favorite as a Feinstein Leadership School makes a comeback at Warwick Neck! All are encouraged to wear their Feinstein t-shirts as we promote acts of kindness and good deeds! All kindergarteners and students new to Warwick Neck should have received shirts, free of charge, last week! If you wish to get a new shirt or upgrade to a larger size, please contact our spirit wear distributer here

"Make-A-Difference Mondays" will be held, once a month (as opposed to weekly as in past years) starting this year on the first Monday of each month. Therefore, after this week, the next "Make-A-Difference Monday" at Warwick Neck will be held on Monday, November 4th. Did you miss the news article on our website about this back in September? Read it here.

Tues., Oct. 22nd - Professional Day (NO SCHOOL)

There is no school for students on Tuesday, October 22nd as our faculty undertakes Professional Development. Regular operations and classes are underway every other weekday of this week. This was noted on our school calendar for the year, as well as Mr. Galligan's "Weekly Wildcat" last Thursday, and is one of three (3) professional days that impact families. As always, you can see our complete academic calendar for the year on our school website here.

Weds., Oct. 23rd - Special School Committee Meeting

Parents are invited to a special meeting of the Warwick School Committee at 6:30 PM, in Pilgrim High School, this Wednesday, October 23, 2024. The meeting will address rising costs of the new high schools that your children will attend, along with reasons why costs are going up and how the committee has been trying to cut costs without impacts to the children, and potential paths forward -- should voters approve, if the community decides. Please join us!

Fri., Oct. 25 - "Trunk-or-Treat" and Monster Mash Dance Party

All are invited to join us for an annual favorite, but with a new addition! Stop by Warwick Neck School on Friday evening, Oct. 25th at 5 PM for our "Trunk-or-Treat", followed by a "Monster Mash Dance Party" thereafter inside the school until 7 PM. Candy donations are now underway for the event - simply feed the "Candy Monster" in the front lobby of the school, with candy donations, through this Friday, October. 25th.

Additionally, if you are willing to donate light-up inflatable decorations to the evening event, please email the PTA here

Please note that, as a PTA family event, your attendance means that parents and guardians acknowledge they are solely responsible for - and reliable for - supervision of their own child(ren) during this event. Simple parental presence on the property does not mean that the children are safe; All children should be carefully supervised by parents to prevent injuries, social conflicts, and ensure the safety of all. Thank you for your attention to this - and your support for a safe and appropriate event.

Additional, important items of note for families:

School Improvement Team - You're invited!

Please consider joining our school improvement team! As students most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic now enter RICAS testing age, we are expecting a decline in state testing scores and school star ratings as we try to balance keeping school fun, engaging, and relevant for our kids - while also increasing necessary rigor, proper student attendance and vital parent support, and appropriate academic expectations that positively impact our school community while addressing the aforementioned concerns. Please see more regarding this ongoing initiative here

Honoring the Veterans of Warwick Neck -- Now accepting names!

As we do every year, we plan to honor Veterans of our community with a reading of names and a presentation of choral songs and student reflections on Friday, November 8th at 10AM. Community politicians, dignitaries, and - of course - our veterans - are invited to a morning that honors the bravery and sacrifice of those who served in our community. Due to space limitations, Grades 3-5 present this ceremony, whereas Grades K-2 honor the holiday with age-appropriate lessons in their classrooms. Learn more, and submit names of Veterans for the event, here

Have a great week,

-- Mr. Galligan
