All students across the district take a test (known as a diagnostic) in September to measure grade-level knowledge in math and reading at the start of the year. To gauge student growth, an additional test is given in January (mid-year) and again in June (end of the year).
On Tuesday, June 18th in an email to the school's principal, Frank Galligan, and the faculty and staff, Dr. Lisa Frederickson Schultz, Ph.D., the district's Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, relayed exciting news after reviewing year-end results:
"[Your scores] have increased in reading from 32% to 71% and are one of the district leaders! Your growth in reading was 129%, higher than the national average.
For math, you increased from 19% to 60% proficient, and are also one of the district leaders in this area. Your growth is 110%, also above the national average."
The iReady platform, which administers the three yearly diagnostics, monitors student academic progress and provides lessons, assignments, related games, and remediation to further support the needs of students. The "data dives" of iReady information undertaken by faculty, staff, interventionists, and administration during Common Planning Times, MTSS meetings, Targeted Team meetings, and School Leadership Team meetings have provided highly valuable information to teachers to use in crafting more tailored instruction and new academic interventions since September at Warwick Neck School.

[Figure 1: . The lowest of the 2 bar graphs under both Reading and Math depicts the results of the September diagnostic, whereas the top bar graph denotes the most recent test completed in June. Green indicates students who are at - or above - grade level, while yellow shows the number of students approaching grade level in that category. Red indicates students who are below grade-level. The Yellow and Red categories contain the highest percentages of students with IEP's or 504 plans and who tend to struggle in comparison to their grade-level peers; These students are slated to receive targeted interventions and additional supports in '24-'25.]
A sincere 'thank you' is extended to the faculty and staff for their work, dedication, and persistence with bringing our children back up to where they need to be, academically, following the negative effects of the COVID pandemic.
On Friday afternoon, June 14th, Mr. Galligan was placed into a dunk tank, in the back courtyard of Warwick Neck School, to celebrate the amazing growth and learning everyone accomplished since September. He praised the kids, while further encouraging them to avoid the "summer slide" and continue applying themselves to Mathematics and English Language Arts throughout July and August with summer learning assignments given by the district here.
