On Tuesday, May 21st, Warwick Neck students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 were encouraged to dress in orange, wear sneakers, and optionally participate in our annual Walk-A-Thon, sponsored by Grade 4, to raise money for Idiopathic Pulmonary Hemosiderosis (IDH) research this year. The totally amount raised, as of Thursday, May 23rd was $800!
The community may recall that a dress down day fundraiser was held, district-wide, back in March for Landon, a Cedar Hill School student who is struggling with the disease. We are proud of our 4th graders for extending a helping hand and deciding to raise additional money for this cause.
Here is how the Walk-A-Thon worked:
-- Students who wished to participate in this optional initiative came out, ready to walk, during their regular recess time.
-- A water station was set up near the track.
-- Each student was given a water bottle to stay hydrated. (Students were also encouraged to bring their usual water bottles for refilling throughout the day beyond the Walk-A-Thon timeframe.)
-- Students walked the track until called to line up for lunch.
-- Freeze pops were available and distributed following the walk as a special incentive to help everyone cool off.
-- Optional monetary donations of any amount were welcomed.
