The following was sent via email to the school community by our Principal, Mr. Galligan, on Tuesday, November 21st at 3:56 PM:
Please see the attached letter regarding temporary changes the week we return from Thanksgiving for student arrival and dismissal relating to those who use walking or cars.
If your child is eligible for the bus, we recommend utilizing that to make things easier on you and traffic congestion in the meantime. We are hoping for a quick return to regular operations following road work being started over the holiday weekend.
Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving.
Recent Updates:
Please see the email that was sent out to the community on Sunday, November 26th at 5:15 PM from our Principal, Mr. Galligan, below:
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Families,
On behalf of the faculty and staff, I hope you all enjoyed a warm and memorable Thanksgiving. We have a very busy week as everyone returns to class and work. Please note the following important updates to keep you informed of what is happening:
1.) Temporary Arrival and Dismissal Changes - only for those who walk or car-ride to school
[The back entrance to Warwick Neck School is currently closed to school foot and vehicle traffic due to enhancements taking place in the area.]
-- Arrival: Cars should temporarily park in the neighborhood across Warwick Neck Avenue from the school. Our crossing guards will be on hand, as well as Warwick Police, helping for safe transit across Warwick Neck Ave, down the sidewalk and hill, to our building. Students will assemble inside the All-Purpose Room to meet their teacher; faculty and staff will assume supervision of all children once they enter the building each morning.
-- Dismissal: Cars should park in the same temporary area as the morning and parents/caretakers should walk down the sidewalk and around the back of the school to meet their children in the usual areas.
-- If your child is eligible for bus transportation, we strongly recommend using that for the time-being to alleviate traffic congestion.
-- If you still wish to drop off your child, please be sure to view the attached letter (below) that describes the current situation, as well as providing a map for easier reference relating to parking and construction.
-- We also strongly recommend that those who wish to drop-off and pick-up leave home earlier than usual as traffic delays and congestion are anticipated for arrival and dismissal during this temporary period. Despite the police presence, please drive slowly and safely due to increased foot traffic along Warwick Neck Avenue. We greatly appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation during this time.
2.) Humane Society Assembly -- This Wednesday!
-- Our kids will be enjoying an educational, furry, and fun assembly about taking care of pets with the Humane Society this Wednesday, November 29th in school. My thanks to our PTA for helping to secure these guests!
3.) School Picture Re-Takes -- This Thursday!
-- If your child was absent back in October for school pictures, or if you would like them to have a re-take, please see the attachment below for more information. All re-takes will place this Thursday, November 30th at Warwick Neck School.
4.) Looking ahead...
-- Next week (the week of Dec. 4th) we are welcoming the Scholastic Book Fair to school. Students will be shopping during their scheduled library classes. The complete schedule will be coming out in this Thursday's Weekly Wildcat.
-- The 1st trimester/marking period is ending next Monday, December 4th, with report cards coming out prior to the Winter/Holiday Recess. This year, report cards will be coming home in hard-copy (like the old days!), with the ability to also view the report cards online using the Aspen portal. The 2nd trimester/marking period begins on Tuesday, December 5th
-- Also, the PTA is hosting the first-ever "Frozen in Time" Family Holiday Night (with a "Frozen" movie theme!) for families the evening of next Wednesday, December 6th. Treats, a short movie showing, special surprises, and the scholastic book fair will be open for family shopping. Additional information is forthcoming from the PTA.
Have a great week,
-- Mr. Galligan
