Beginning of Year Diagnostic Assessment

During the first months of the school year, most students in Kindergarten through Eighth grade participate in both a Math & Reading Diagnostic Assessment on the digital curriculum program, iReady. These evaluations provide valuable information that allows the district, schools, and individual classrooms, to make informed instructional decisions for your children. The data provides a nice overview of where your child is on their Math and reading learning journey. The Diagnostic Assessment also creates a Personalized Learning Platform known as MyPath. A student’s MyPath is completely individualized to their specific learning needs. MyPath provides lessons to help challenge your child and stretch their skill set where they excel, as well as providing review and repetition in areas where there is a need for improvement.

What to Look For and Where to Find It

Have your child log into their iReady account, through Clever. Utilizing your child's Chromebook provided by the school to access our district applications, like Clever and Aspen, is always encouraged and often easier than using a personal device. Within iReady, you will find information that will help you better understand how your child did on the assessment, in addition to the lessons they are now working on within their individualized MyPath.

The Importance of Having Your Child Utilize MyPath at Home

MyPath lessons are automatically adjusted according to a student's diagnostic results and reflect the specific learning needs of your child. MyPath acts as another teacher and allows students to learn at their own pace. MyPath is a phenomenal tool to utilize to support your child’s development.

A typical iReady student dashboard

When you are looking at your child’s iReady dashboard, under MyPath you will see the next personalized lesson for your child to complete. You might also see “teacher-assigned” lessons to the left. These “teacher-assigned” lessons are not personalized and are used by teachers for in-class learning. We know that students will see growth on upcoming diagnostic assessments when the goal of 30-50 minutes, which typically equates to 1-2 lessons per week, for both Reading and Math is met.
