Tier 3
As tier 3, these students receive more intensive, individualized support to improve their academic, behavioral, social and emotional outcomes. Students usually make up 5%< when effective tier 1 and 2 supports are implemented.
What is tier 3 support?
Where tier 2 supports are focus on identifying groups of students with similar skill needs, tier 3 supports are individualized and intensive in the areas of academic, behavior, and social emotional needs. Tier 3 supports is reliant on a strong foundation for tier 1 and tier 2.
MTSS Tier 3 Team
Membership for a tier 3 team should includes representation of your school community. Team members should have a deeper understanding of social emotional, behavioral, and academic skills and strategies. An example of the roles on a tier 3 team are an administrator, school psychologist, social worker, nurse, educator(s) from different departments, family member(s)/student (when appropriate). The primary function of this team is to create supportive plans for individual students that help the student engage more productively in and outside the classroom. Plans should include goals, intervention strategies, and progress monitoring and strong family communication.
